The second-hand marketplace Users Share Displeasure Regarding Size Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
The popular resale platform has revised its size classifications for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all users about the change.
Digital Channels Response
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and update the measurements by hand when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Updates
Before the change, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Accounts
One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
A different member, from Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she said.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The service features exceeding 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
